On October 22, 2024 over 125 guests attended the Roaring 20s Gala celebrating 100 Years of the Rotary Club of Arlington's "Service Above Self" to the Arlington community. DJ Dee played tunes from the 20s and a slide presentation was made on the club's history and activities over the years. The food catered by Beaujolais Catering was top notch and drinks like the Mary Pickford and the Bee's Knees accompanied the usual offerings of wine and beer. Paul Buckley and Club President Bill Hayner were the master of ceremonies for the evening and awards were presented to the following recipients:
Paul Harris Fellow Award Recipients
Rev. Marc J. Bishop, V.F. (Presented by Nancy Feeney)
Christine Deshler, Arlington Finance Committee Chair (Presented by Charlie Foskett)
James Feeney, Arlington Town Manager (Presented by Bill Hayner)
John D. Leone, Attorney (Presented by Bill Cronin)
Sushil Tuli, Chairman & CEO, Leader Bank (Presented by Baij Joshi)
Community Person of the Year Award
Richard Stavros, Regent Theatre Owner (Presented by Paul Buckley)
Guests included many local business persons and Arlington residents. District Governor Tom Hankard presented a special citation to longtime member Greg Anderson for his 50 years as a Rotarian and Representative Sean Garbally presented citations to the award recipients on behalf of the Commonwealth and on behalf of Arlington resident and Governor Maura Healey a Proclamation celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Rotary Club of Arlington. Special guests included the club's visiting Rotary Scholar Kenji Numata from Japan and Dr Sandra Isano, a visiting Rotarian from Rwanda (Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga).
Without the support of our many sponsors and supporters the evening would not have been such a success. Sponsors for the evening included:
GOLD LEVEL - Gibson Sotheby's International Realty, Leader Bank and Watertown Savings Bank
SILVER LEVEL - Brookline Bank, East Cambridge Savings Bank, Steve McKenna and the Home Advantage Team, Rockland Trust and The Russian School of Mathematics
BRONZE LEVEL - American Alarm, Keefe Funeral Home, Rogers & Hutchins Funeral Home and Wonder Yoga
The 40 page program book highlighted the many supporting businesses, Rotary programs and the bios for each of the award recipients. Cheers to the past 100 Years of "Service Above Self" from the Rotary Club of Arlington to the local community and throughout the world. Here's to the next 100 years!
